Date de décès : 7 décembre 2008
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Jeannette on Dec. 7, 2008, in her 91st year. Jeannette was born in Sydney to the late Allan A. and Annie (McNally) MacDonald. She left Sydney after graduating from Holy Angels Convent for the Montreal General Hospital, where she completed her training to become an RN. In 1942, she joined the Royal Canadian Army Corps (nursing division) and was stationed in Horley, England with the 24th General Hospital. Upon her return to Canada she worked at St. Anne de Bellevue Veterans Hospital and was later transferred to the Queen Mary Veterans' Hospital in Montreal. When discharged, she returned to Sydney, where she worked at St. Rita and City hospitals before moving to Halifax in 1958, retiring as administrative supervisor at the Victoria General Hospital in 1977. Jeannette was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Walsh, Sydney; and is survived by her daughter, Winnifred (Kenneth Banfield) and loving grandchildren, Melissa (Jason Murphy) and Johnny. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Brocklehurst, Sydney. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Wilfred, Alvin 'Eddy', Eldred 'Bubby' and Elmer. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. After moving to Dartmouth upon retirement, Jeannette travelled extensively and became an active member of her community. She belonged to many groups and organizations including St. Anthony's Parish Catholic Women's League, Dartmouth North Seniors' Club, where she remained president for 10 years, and the senior choir. In 2001, Jeannette received a certificate from the senior citizen centre for 25 years of volunteer service. Jeannette remained active her entire life and was a regular at the Dartmouth Sportsplex aqua aerobics and silver strutter's tap dancing group. The family would like to thank all of the staff and volunteers at Ocean View Manor, where Jeannette resided for her final three years. Words cannot express our gratitude for the exceptional care, compassion and friendship you all showed your "duchess" during her time with you. Jeannette loved to socialize with family and friends and was always up for a good party. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
