61, North Sydney Surrounded by the love of his family, Harold Robert Ings, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle passed away peacefully after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer on Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in North Sydney, Harold was the son of Vera (Chaisson) Ings of North Sydney and the late Charles Ings. Harold worked aboard the Marine Atlantic vessels for 35 years until his retirement. Besides his mother Vera, Harold leaves behind his beloved wife of 38 years, Shirley (Humeniuk) Ings, formerly of Whitney Pier, who will miss him deeply. His beloved son Stephen and wife Lindsay, Dartmouth, much treasured and loved grandsons, Zachary and Noah who will miss him very much as they were 'Poppy's boys'. Also surviving are his sisters, Charlene and Alice, both of North Sydney, Barbara Tricco and her husband Neil, Newfoundland; and his extended family, father and mother-in-law, Steve and Rose Humeniuk, Whitney Pier; sister-in-law, Donna Barrington and her husband Ed, Portage; brothers-in-law, Dan Humeniuk and his wife Cathy, Port Hawkesbury, Wayne Humeniuk and his wife Monica, Winnipeg, Steve Humeniuk Jr. and his wife Betty, Sydney River; his special uncle, Angus Ings, Sydney Mines; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, also godchildren, Philip Doody, Trinity Ings and Laura Humeniuk. In keeping with Harold's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A Funeral service will be held for Harold at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney with Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
