As well, Rose had 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Gino Smith, father and mother, Donald and Laura Morrison and two brothers, Tom and Johnny Morrison. Rose and Gino raised their family and opened their home to more than 39 foster children on 601 Alexandra St., Sydney and were well known by all their neighbours. Their's was a home that many used as a refuge in troubled times. Rose will be remembered for her tremendous love of cooking and sharing those delicious meals with whoever happened by; her kitchen table always had an extra chair for an unexpected guest. Rose enjoyed dancing, and encouraged her children to enjoy music and dancing. She often said, "Dance whenever you have the chance, it will keep you young!" Rose also enjoyed playing bingo, and often spoke fondly and laughingly of the wonderful times she had with her bingo friends in Sydney. She loved being in the company of her children and friends. In her later years, she was often referred to as 'Gypsy Rose' trave'ling to see her many sons and daughters in Fort McMurray, Ontario and the Annapolis Valley Rose's faith and her prayers to St. Jude gave her tremendous strength and her unconditional love for her family was truly remarkable. She never judged, just offered guidance and help whenever she could. She lived her entire life loving and caring for her family, never regretting a moment. In times of trouble or sickness, she would encourage us to "live one day at a time." Public visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, 49 Welton St., Sydney on Sunday evening Dec. 21, 2008, from 7-9 p.m. Mom touched many lives during her 90 years and we look forward to meeting all of you that can attend.
