1933-2008 Glace Bay It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Irene (Saccary) Lynk. Ma passed away peacefully at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex on Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with COPD and cancer. Irene was born in Glace Bay to Alphonse and Winnifred (Byrne) Saccary. Ma was a very special woman who loved being surrounded by her family and friends. She loved a good game of cards, her CB radio, listening to the scanner and food. She was a devoted mother to all her children, especially her son and buddy, Wendell, who she lovingly cared for. Irene is survived by her children, Linda (Flynn) Locke, Lorraine (Jerry) MacGillivary, Clifford 'Linko' (Debbie), Joseph, Ann Denise (Reg) Purcell, Wesley (Mary), Myles 'Cha' (Karen), Darlene, Wendell; and one very special grandson, Wayne, who Irene helped mold into the fine man he is today; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson; sisters, Annie, Beatrice, Katie and Willena; and brother, Myles. Besides her parents, Irene was predeceased by her husband, Clifford 'Kippy', son, Leo, grandchildren, J.J., Brendon, Bryan, sister, Theresa, brothers, Leo, Jake and dear friend, Carl. Although sad to say goodbye, we are glad that the pain she was suffering is now over and was very fortunate to have spent many hours enjoying her family. Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 27 from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29 at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with Fr. Gerald Campbell officiating. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Irene's memory may be made to the Canadian Lung Association, Cancer Society or charity of choice.
