It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of our husband, father, grampy, brother and brother-in-law at his home on December 24, 2008, after a lengthy illness. Jim was born on July 11, 1930, in Chatham, Ont. He was the son of the late Muriel Alzina (Young) and George Henry Huckle. His early education was in Wallaceburg Ont. At the age of 18, he joined the RCN where he served until 1973 leaving with the rank of chief warrant officer. From there, he worked as a civilian at the National Headquarters in Ottawa. Following this he joined the Canadian Frigate Patrol Program in Saint John, N.B. for nine years retiring fully in 1993. Jim was a very happy, outgoing individual who had a wonderful sharp mind, excellent in math and computers. He loved wood working, remodelling his various homes over the years. He was an avid scuba diver, hunter and skier who started that sport when he was 55. Never afraid of a challenge, he took on the task of raising three teenage stepchildren when he married his second wife, Sue Ann O'Brien, RN in 1985. He also loved travelling for pleasure with trips to Europe, the Caribbean's and Florida. He will forever be missed by his wife, Sue Ann (Conrad) O'Brien-Huckle, RN; his children; daughters, Katherine Fern Higgins (Wayne), Fall River, N.S., Cynthia Ann Mohareb (Justin), Milton, Ont.; son, Grantly James Huckle (Peggy), Eastern Passage; sister, Helen Elford Huckle, Innisfil, Ont.; brother, Douglas Wallace Ont.; stepdaughters, Kelli Sue O'Brien (Kevin), Mt. Forest, Ont., Tonya Marilyn Thorpe (Kevin) Fergus, Ontario; stepson, Thomas Bradly O'Brien (Laura), Burlington, Ont.; grandchildren, Jennifer Thornton, Nancy Higgins; great-grandchildren, Amber and Paige; step-grandchildren, Brett, Jesse, Owen, Olivia, Hayley, Taylor, Rachel, all of Ontario; nieces Ann and Karen; nephew, Bill. He was predeased by his former wife, Mildred Dorothy MacDonald 1991; daughter, Carolyn Elizabeth,1960; half brother Palmer and brother-in-law, Charles Elford. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held December 30, 2008 at 2 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home Chapel, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, Rev. Patricia Malin officiating. Reception to follow. Family Flowers only.
