86, New Waterford With great sadness we announce the passing of Caridi Ernesto Pozzebon on Jan. 8, 2009, at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. Born in New Waterford, Sept. 22, 1922, he was a son of the late Giovanni and Guiditta (Razzolini) Pozzebon. Caridi was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Church, New Waterford. He was well known, having operated a restaurant (Dagwood's), a poolroom and driving taxi. Caridi also worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Carpenter's Union, Local 1588. In his later years, he ran a sharpening business. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Caridi's passing will leave a large void in the lives of his wife, children and family members. Caridi is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Margaret McCann, better known as 'Blondie'; two sons, Gary (Patricia), Gardiner Mines, Ernesto (Cindy), New Waterford; six grandchildren, Mark, Jasmine (Michael), Chris (Becky), Giovanni, Jennifer Ann, Carmen; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Gavin, Lily; one sister, Ernestine Nearing, New Waterford; as well as several nieces and nephews. Caridi was predeceased by a son, Vernon, who died in infancy, sisters, Inez and Secundina, brothers, Ernesto and Gino. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Caridi will take place Monday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael Church with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Carmel Centre with interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Canada, Maritime Region or a charity of choice.
