85, Sydney Ronald M. Delaney of Upper Prince Street passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sydney he was the son of the late Martin and Josephine (Dawson) Delaney. Ron was employed at the Sydney Steel Plant for 44 years working in the wire and nail mill until its closure and then the blooming mill. He was a member of St. Theresa's parish, a member of the Sydney Steelworkers and Pensioners Club, Club 55, and the Ukulele Strummers. He was an avid bowler and dart player. He enjoyed entertaining with his melodious voice and his ear for all musical instruments. Ron is survived by his wife, Marie (Oakley-Slade); daughters, Jean (Brian) Brophy, Point Edward, and Cheryl (Carl) MacLeod, Middle River; five grandchildren and one great-grandson. He is also survived by his stepchildren, daughters, Debbie (Michael) Whitty, Brenda (Allan) Donovan, both of Ingonish Harbour, Shirley (Bill) Puddicombe, Frenchvale; and sons, Tommy (Pixie) Slade, Leitches Creek, Kevin Slade, at home; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is survived by sisters, Mary Tobin, Westmount, Margie (Earl) Healey, Jean MacLeod, both of Sydney, Agnes (Marty) MacIntyre, East Bay; brothers, Martin (Ruth), Joe (Betty), Pat (Myrna), all of Sydney, Jim (Cecilia), Wiarton, Ontario; nephew, Gerry (Warna) Delaney, Sydney; and sister-in-law, Margaret Delaney. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Helen (Doubley), an infant son, Joseph, sister, Theresa Smith, and brother, Gerry. Visitation will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel , 755 George St., Sydney, Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with funeral mass to be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa's Church with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Reception will be held at the Sydney Pensioners Club, Inglis Street.
