Thomas Gaskell

Feb. 24, 1915-Jan. 26, 2009 Thomas Gaskell passed away on Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 at Taigh Na Mara. Born in Glace Bay he was a veteran of the Second World War serving in the Canadian Corp Signal, in the Aleutian Islands, also served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers and overseas in Europe and worked as a carpenter for most of his life. He loved music and played several instruments. Thomas was a member of Epworth United Church He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Beatrice; first wife, Effie (Simmons); second wife, Dini (Veneburg) and sisters, Lily and Helen. Thomas is survived by sons, George, Glace Bay and Peter (Peggy), Glace Bay; daughter Delsie (Sandy); grandchildren, Heather (Philip) of Manitoba, Sandy, Holly, Ryan, and Adam. There will be no visitation. A private family service will take place at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, 849-7520 with burial to take place at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery.
