93, Sydney/Glace Bay Mabel Allison, 93, of Harbour Stone Enhanced Care Facility, Sydney and a former resident of Caledonia, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at her residence. Born in Glace Bay, Mabel was the daughter of the late John James and Maria Jane (Yorke) Allison. Mabel had a strong faith which she carried throughout her lifetime. She was a member of St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay. Mabel was a quiet woman who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and will be remembered for her compassionate nature. She is survived by one daughter, Ann (Roland) Coombes, one brother, James (Teresa), and two sisters, Viola and Camella (Mrs. Alex MacDonald), all of Glace Bay. Also surviving are Mabel's grandson, James Coombes, Glace Bay; several nieces and nephews; and one special niece, Mary Brennan, Glace Bay. Mabel was predeceased by three sisters, Allie, Rita, Mary, two brothers, Frank, Stephen and a brother and sister in infancy. Private family visitation only at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Leo Boone will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay. Interment at a later date in the parish cemetery. As an expression of sympathy for Mabel, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of one's choice.
