The death occurred at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, on Saturday, March 14, 2009, of Douglas Harkness, of South Shore Villa, Crapaud, and formerly of Cape Traverse and Borden-Carleton, aged 79 years. Born in Summerside, he was the son of the late John Sr. and Emily (Watson) Harkness. Survived by his son, John (Pam) Harkness, Cape Traverse, stepchildren Stephen (Linda) Hardy, Borden-Carleton, Barbara (Doug) Ness, Niagara Falls, Ont., William (Darla) Hardy, Summerside, 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and by a brother-in-law, Lester Chappell, Summerside. Predeceased by his wife, Audrey (MacCaull-Hardy) Harkness, step-son, Stanley Hardy, brothers, Harold “Bun” (Marjorie) Harkness, Claude (Bertha) Harkness, John Jr. “Jack” (Beryl) Harkness, sister Helen Chappell, nephew, Lester Chappell Jr., and niece, Jean Harkness. Resting at the Moase Funeral Home, Summerside, where funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Interment later in Peoples Cemetery, Summerside. Visiting hours Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
