John Clifford White, 82, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Aberdeen Hospital.
Born in Stellarton, he was the son of the late Harold White and Sophie (MacGillivray) White.
He spent his working life at Maritime Steel and Hawker Siddeley. He was active in his early years playing ball, later on he enjoyed time with his neighbours on St. Theresa St. He enjoyed a good evening of cards with his family, watching hockey games and spending time with his grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary (Hayman); sons: John (Donna), New Glasgow; Hugh (Linda), Westville; Glenn (Karen), Scotland; daughters: Mary Ellen Ward, Wolfville; Cindy Greene, Chris (Miles) Kirkendall, both of New Glasgow; Kathy (Peter) Legere, Cole Harbour; Colleen (Wayne) Van’tslot, Ottawa; grandchildren: Chris and Nick Fraser, Colin White, Jason White, Richard and Kaela White, Andrew, Chase and Kara Kirkendall, Justin and Stephanie Greene, Brandon and Brooklyn Van’tslot and Emma Legere; great-grandchildren, Jordyn and Hunter White; sisters: Caroline Trew, Lillian Wilson, Sheila Morrison, Violet Lees, Helen Arnold, Doreen Coady; and niece, Mable Hoare.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by son, Fred; son-in-law, Arthur Ward; sisters, Pauline Gratto, Wilma Sheppherd; brother, Doug; and nephew, Ronnie Gratto.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Trinity United Church with Lori Crocker, D.M. officiating. Reception to follow in the Church hall. Interment will be at a later date.
