Guy A. C. Brown, age 72, of Springhill, NS, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges L. DuMont Hospital in Moncton on Sunday, April 5, 2009.

Born in Springhill, he was a son of Mabel (Goodwin) Brown, Port Elgin, NB and the late Charles Brown.

Guy was a member of the St. David's Presbyterian Church, Springhill. He was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 6 years, serving with the UN Special Forces in Egypt. He worked as a travelling salesman for Watkins Products for ten years. He was a Lifetime member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party. During his long and respected career with the provincial government he held many positions, including: Minister of Consumer Affairs, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs, Minister of Labor, Minister of Agriculture, and Minister for the Workman's Compensation Board. Guy was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Springhill Legion. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time at the hunting camp. He never forgot about the people, and enjoyed speaking with anyone and everyone and was always concerned for those in need. Above all, Guy was a family man and loved and enjoyed his family.

In addition to his mother, he will be sadly missed by his wife, the former June Lewis; his sons, Dale (Eleanor) of Riverview, NB and Glenn of Stephenville, NL; his step-daughter Debbie (Brian) Fillmore of Mapleton, 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; brothers Garnet (Mary) of Amherst, Bliss (Debbie) of Bridgewater, Carmen, Murray (Patricia) and Kenneth (Margaret), all of Sackville, NS, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Matthew at birth, David and Angus.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361) where visiting hours will take place on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held from the funeral home on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 2 pm, Rev. Elizabeth Davies officiating. Burial will take place in the Mapleton Cemetery at a later date. A time of tea and fellowship will be held at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Center immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Guy's memory to the Guy Brown Library, the St. David's Presbyterian Church, or the Kidney Foundation.
