H. Dean Bell, 88 years of age, of Amherst, N.S., passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2010, at the Northumberland Hall, Amherst. Born in Cape Traverse, P.E.I., he was a son of the late Nathan and Annie (Howatt) Bell. Dean served over seas with the Air Force during the Second World War as a radar technician. After the war, he worked with the CBC as a radio technician, initially in Sackville, N.B., and then in Halifax, N.S. He was a member of the Lions Club. A life long Mason, he was a member of the Mount Moriah Lodge No 15 in Central Bedeque, P.E.I., as well as a long-time member and past president of the Air Force Club (Amherst Branch). He volunteered with the Metro Food Bank in Halifax. His passions were gardening, camping, tinkering in his garage and basement and spending time with family members and friends at home and at the cottage on P.E.I. Dean will be sadly missed by his sons, Peter, Gary (Judy) and David (Debbie) all of Amherst; grandsons, Chris (Stephanie), Paul (Brandi); great-grandchildren, Derian, Zachery, Mickhail, Daniel. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wives Catherine Howatt, Helen Murphy, daughters Carol Terrio, her husband Danny Terrio, and Nancy Bell. Dean's remains have been cremated under the care of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777). A graveside service will be held in Cape Traverse in July 2010.
