We the family sadly announce the peaceful passing of our brother, and uncle Sandy Gillis, on Thursday April 1st, 2010 at Harbourstone Enchanced Care, Sydney.
Sandy was formerly of Ripley Street in New Waterford. We would like to express our thanks to the staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care for the years of kind and compassionate care shown to Sandy during his stay. He was the son of the late Hugh and Mary (Dalton) Gillis.
Sandy is survived by sisters Leona Miller, Ont , Mary (Willie) Hurley, Irene MacDonald, Joan (Ray) Connell all of New Waterford. Pheobe (Fahey) MacDonald, Glace Bay; brother Wilfred (Irene) Crummey, New Waterford, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Sandy was predeceased by his parents; brother Tom (Tucker) Gillis, Manitoba; sister Abby Smith, Ontario; brothers-in-law Angus MacDonald, New Waterford, Jim Miller, Ontario, and nephew Ricky Connell.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place, a Memorial service will be held on Thursday April 8th, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in McLellan Brothers Funeral Home Ltd. 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford (862-7500) with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery at a later date.
