Florence “Ethel†Sutherland, 90, of Scotsburn and Stellarton, passed away April 13, 2009, in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow.
Born in Rockfield, and later living in Elmfield, she was one of twelve daughters of the late George and Agnes (Carson) Hislop.
Ethel and her husband liked to travel around Nova Scotia, often taking members of the family with them. She was an avid card player and bingo player, and very lucky at both. Ethel was known for her bread making.
Surviving are sisters: Margaret Henderson, Pictou; Gladys Langille, Scotsburn; Vesta Hislop, Scotsburn; Zelda Hansford, Yarmouth; and nieces and nephews.
Ethel was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Daniel William “Dewill†Sutherland; sisters: Annie MacCara, Georgie Beckwith, Ella Neath, Charlotte MacLeod, Irene Hislop, Janie Henderson, Drucella Langille.
Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday from Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating.
Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, Glen Haven Manor, or a charity of your choice.
