STELLARTON/GLENELG – Margaret Idella Smith, Stellarton, formerly of Glenelg, Guysborough County, passed away April 14, 2009, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born April 30, 1920 at Melrose, Guysborough County, she was a daughter of the late James and Sadie (MacKeen) Tate.
She had been a resident of Stellarton since 1974 having previously resided in Glenelg. She was an adherent of Kirk Memorial United Church, Aspen.
Surviving is her daughter, Shirley Francis, Milton, Queens Co.; grandchildren, Jonathan (Dawn Phillips), Richmond, BC; Julie (Shawn) D’Arcy, Queens County; great-grandchildren, Shae and Max D’Arcy; sisters-in-law: Maude Tate, Antigonish; Marie Tate, Melrose; Ethel Smith, Pictou; Grace Smith, Seattle, Washington.
She was predeceased by her husband, Herman; son, Laurie Seldon; daughter, Sandra Margaret; brothers, Aubrey and Austin; sister, Gladys; and son-in-law, Max Francis; brother-in-law, Dunbar MacKay.
Her remains will rest in the Kirk Memorial United Church, Aspen, from 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from Kirk Memorial United Church with Derek Elsworth officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Aspen.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 71 IIsley Ave., Unit 12 Dartmouth, NS, B3B 1L5 or Evergreen Cemetery, Aspen, Guysborough County, NS, B0H 1E0.
Arrangements are under the direction of the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
