Odis Victor Sidney Sharpe, 84 of Sunny Brae. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Moser's River. He was the son of the late David and Hattie (Carver) Sharpe.
He was an adherent of Calvin Presbyterian Church, Sunny Brae. He was employed by AT Logan, John W. MacKay and Bob Leahey. In his later years he was employed with the Department of Highways, from which he later retired.
He enjoyed the simpler things of life, especially watching the hummingbirds from his chair.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Katherine (Kaye) Palmer; children: Laurie (Mary), Wanda (Ian) MacKay, Wade, Brian (Brenda), Irving (Wendy), and Valerie; grandchildren: Angela (Gregg) MacDonald, Jannesta (Harvey) Fitzpatrick, Lor-Ann, Craig (Erin), Amanda (Derek) MacDonald, Travis, Richard, Eric, Ashley, Justin, Joshua, Alannah, Christopher, Zachery, Kelsey, Marcus, Sidney and Julian; great-grandchildren: Corey, Allyson, Reegan, Dylan, Maddison, Braeden, Sebastian, Brianna, Tru and Kaden; brothers, Park (Doreen), Cliff (Eleanor), Eldon "Nick" (Helen); sisters, Marion (Roy) Kenny, and Lorraine (Kevin) MacDougall; sisters-in-law, Gloria Sharpe, Evelyn Sharpe and Audrey Cameron; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by his brothers, Erskine, Lester and Dean.
There will be visitation on Tuesday April 28th, 2009, at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in H. W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral will be on Wednesday, April 29th, 2009, at 2 p.m. in Calvin Presbyterian Church, Sunny Brae with Rev. Donald Shepard officiating. Interment will be in Sunny Brae Cemetery with reception to follow in the IOOF Hall in Sunny Brae.
Family flowers only. Memorials may be made to Palliative Care Society, VON, Sunny Brae Cemetery, Calvin Presbyterian Church or a charity of one's choice.
The family would like to give special thanks at this time to Kathy Carruthers RN (VON) for all her special visits to Dad, also to Debbie Williams RN and to Dr. Gerry Farrell for all their support and compassion. They were a special group of friends to Dad.
