With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jane MacKeigan, RN, of Albert Bridge, who passed away Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay in 1947, she was the daughter of Mabel (Stevens) Rafferty and the late James Rafferty.
Jane is survived by her loving husband, Neil; daughter, Susanne (Steve), Mira; sons, Stephen, Calgary and Scott, Sydney; sister, Judy (Wayne) Ferneyhough, Dartmouth and her granddaughter, Rebecca Jane.
Jane graduated from the Glace Bay General Hospital School of Nursing in 1968. Her greatest satisfaction in life came from her family and her more than 20 years nursing service with Dr. M.S. Virick in his practice with the Eskasoni First Nations and most recently, with Dr. P. Murphy in Sydney.
Memorial service will take place Monday at 3 p.m. at Union Presbyterian Church with Pastor Kevin Richardson and Rev. Jackie MacDonald officiating. Interment in Riverside Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Palliative Care, Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer Center, or charity of choice.
