It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Ann (Ashton) Grant Feit on April 3, 2010 at Eagle View Seniors Care Unit, St Joseph Hospital, Comox, BC. She was predeceased by her father, Tom Ashton, mother Margaret Ashton, brother Robert Ashton and sister Olive (Ashton) Chako.
Ann was born Feb 20, 1918 in Lancashire, England, her family came to Canada in 1927 and settled in Nova Scotia, there she met and married the love of her life, Dougald Grant. They married on Feb 20, 1939 and on June 19, 1940 had their only child, Dougald (Doug) Robert Grant.
The family left Nova Scotia and moved to Cumberland in 1948 and there they stayed for the next 30 some years, during this time Ann worked 25 years at Safeway and made many friends and acquaintances. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Rebecca Lodges and was always a very busy and social person. Sadly during this time she lost her husband Dougald (1973).
Some years later, while visiting family and friends in Nova Scotia Mom met an old family friend, Charlie Feit. They were married during the summer of 1977. The Feit family adopted Mom as one of their own and she had another wonderful 25 years seeing many grandchildren and great- grandchildren come into the family during that time. She acquired the name Grammie Ann while back east. The same generations of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren in BC soon were using her new name with the same pride as the kids on the east coast. After losing Charlie in April of 1999, Mom decided to move back to the Comox Valley to be closer to her son Doug and his wife Janie.
It wasn't long before Mom had found her new home at Centennial Place Seniors units in Cumberland. She had seven great years there before starting to suffer from bouts of Vertigo. After having a bad fall just before Christmas in 2007 breaking her wrist and suffering from a very serious concussion, unfortunately at that time she had to give up living on her own and spent the next year with her son and wife, In January of 2008 Eagle View called and she stayed there for her remaining years, words cannot tell how much she enjoyed her stay there, her praise for the staff was never-ending. She always said they had to be very special people as they always made the residents feel as they were special.
Mom had a wonderful life she was most generous and many times her generosity was done through a third person as she wanted no thanks or recognition for helping where she could,
In Nova Scotia she leaves behind step-daughters, Shirley (Feit) Harper and Emily (Feit) MacGregor and step-son Philip Feit, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as her sister-in-law, Jean Ashton; many nieces and nephews in the Comox Valley she leaves her son Doug and his wife Janie and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.

A service/celebration of Ann's life will be held on April 17th, at 2:00 P.M. at the Comox Valley Presbyterian Church, 725 Aspen Comox, BC, as well, a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 1st, 2010 in the Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn, N.S. at 11:00 A.M. conducted by Rev. John Finlayson.
