It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of our beloved father, brother and uncle, Fabian R. McKinnon, 76, of Glace Bay on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Oct. 21, 1933, Fabian was the son of the late Neil and Bridget (Robinson) McKinnon.
He was a devoted member of St. Leo's parish, Glace Bay. He was a retired coal miner having worked 40 years in No. 20, No. 26, and Lingan mines. Fabian enjoyed bowling in his younger years and also loved to go dancing with his wife Carmie. He had a strong faith and was a key member of St. Leo's parish where he was a Eucharistic minister and he was also involved in anything that had to be done around the parish and hall, he lived for his parish.
Fabian leaves to mourn his son, Brain (Ken), California, USA; brother, Neil 'Beau', Toronto, Ont., the last surviving member of their immediate family. Loving nieces, Eunice (Cameron) MacKinnon, Sydney, Marie (Neil) Butts, Glace Bay - these ladies were his caregivers for many years; sister-in-law, Anna (James) Kennedy, Glace Bay; as well as many other nieces and nephews, along with his many great friends at Valley View.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Carmelita, sisters, Theresa, Josephine, Mary Margaret, Annie, brothers, Michael, John, Joseph Stephen, Finley and Ronald.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place by his request. A funeral mass celebrating Fabian's life will take place Tuesday, April 20, at 2 p.m. in St. Leo's Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Bill Rankin officiating. Interment will take place in St. Ann's Cemetery. A reception in Fabian's honour will be held immediately following the mass downstairs in the parish hall, all are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Fabian's memory to a charity of one's choice.
