April 20, 1962 - February 18, 2010 - Psalm 18:16 "For He, the Lord rescued me; He drew me out of deep waters". On February 18, 2010 Harold Wayne Cossaboom of White Head Island, NB went home to be with his Lord and Savior. Best friend and husband of 26 years to Sharon (Doherty) Cossaboom and very loving father of HR and Douglas. Only son of the late Colby Cossaboom and Audrey (Thompson) Cossaboom of White Head. Caring brother to Gertrude (Armando) Torralva, of Corpus Christie, Texas, Jean (Larry) Rushton, of Victoria Corner, NB., and Margaret (Jamie) Small of White Head Island. Special Uncle to many wonderful nieces and nephews. Thoughtful friend to so many near and far away. Above all a dedicated Christian.
Born on Grand Manan, NB and raised on White Head Island, Harold attended White Head Elementary School until grade 6 then he traveled to school on Grand Manan Island until his graduation in 1980. Harold pursued a fishing career with his grandfather and father from the time he could walk. His love, hard work, and dedication to all types of fishing stayed true throughout the years and is now passed on to his oldest son HR. His dedication to weir fishing was rekindled as he traveled to Campobello to build Meadow Brook Weir the last few summers of his life. While spending time building Meadow Brook there were great friendships formed and they will always be remembered. Harold's love for hunting was also apparent from a very young age and he traveled the last seven years to Anticosti Island with many great friends by his side. Harold was a member of the White Head Baptist Church since he was a teenager. Over the years he taught Sunday School, led the music, sang in the choir and with many talented groups. He also loved helping with Youth Group and the annual paintball rally. He was a faithful giver especially to missions and those he saw in need. His love of reading, singing and playing guitar was an inspiration. He enjoyed spending his spare time hanging with his fellow musicians and friends singing, laughing, and making many cherished memories. Baseball and hockey were sports that Harold enjoyed as a younger man. Taking pride and care in his community was always a priority and he was actively involved in the Grand Manan Fisherman's Association, while he was there he was past President, active on the board of directors until 2002, sat on the Lobster Committee for seventeen years, the Gray Zone Working Group, and also the Weir Sector Committee. Other organizations that Harold contributed to were the Grand Manan Sea Urchin Association, LFA38 Lobster Advisory Board, the Grand Manan Community School Parent School Support Committee, and the White Head Volunteer Fire Department. Traveling was a great passion of Harold's; he enjoyed the experience of meeting different people, cultures, and visiting new places. Harold held a very strong love for family. He was the one who could be counted on anytime a family member needed help. He brought so much love and laughter to all family gatherings. His sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who were able to know him.
Due to the circumstances surrounding his death Harold's family has decided to wait to have a memorial service in one year on February 18, 2011.
