It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Kevin on April 21, 2010. Kevin was born and raised in Bonavista and at the early age of 17 he moved to St. John's and began his career in the furniture business with The London New York and Paris, where he met his wife Brenda (Monister). Kevin was in his 76th year and passed away at the Palliative Care Unit of the Miller Centre. Kevin was predeceased by parents Thomas and Mamie Joy, sisters Rose Marie and Catherine and a grandson Matthew Thomson. Leaving to mourn are his wife of 54 years Brenda and his children Debbie Sparkes (Steve), Donna McLaughlin (Paul), New Brunswick, Chris (Bobbie Wells), David (Lorinda), Ontario, Karen Thomson (Dale Sheen), Texas, Steven (Kim), Robert (Jennifer Vihos), Ontario; thirteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and special caregiver Irene Mahaney. Kevin leaves behind a large circle of family and friends, including his brothers and sisters: Gerard (Penny), Aloysius (Libby), Angus, Isidore (Gerri), Jerome (Marie), Dolores Whiffen (Marvin), Peggy Russell (Dennis), and Leo Fitzgerald. Visitation at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John's, on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and then on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass to take place on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from St. Teresa's Church, Mundy Pond Road at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
