DURHAM - With many tears, laughter, song and family, Rollie danced off to start a new journey, this one with no suffering. In the early hours of May 6th Rollie lost his brave and courageous battle with cancer.
Rollie was born into the great MacConnell family on Oct. 6th, 1957. He was the son of the late Rae and Helen(Tattrie) MacConnell, Meadowville, a proud farming family, raised on Stoney Acres Farm.
He was employed with the Pictou Shipyard for many years and befriended everyone he worked with. He was also employed with Kitnuna out of Gooselake. Rollie was so torn between leaving his wife and family to go North, but so very proud to go and work hard and fly his Nova Scotia flag. He was also a tug-of-war champion.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Ruth (Jackson) who he affectionately call "Bubba's". Their son, Joseph (Elva), Thorburn - brother, David (Melissa), Millsville - sister, Janet (Peter) MacKenzie, Millsville - brothers, Robin (Maggie), Durham - Douglas (Kathi), Pleasant Valley. Nieces and nephew, Erin and Lauren MacKenzie - Ryan (Krista) MacConnell, - special family friend, MacLellan Rae "Clully".
We the family would like to express our deepest gratitude toward Dr. Gerry Farrell, Joanne Cumminger, the VON, and the nursing staff of the Pallative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital for your gentle tenderness.
To our friends, neighbours, co-workers who sent cards, messages and your phone calls. Words are not enough to tell you how you have touched our hearts. As Rollie would say, "Toodley Doo"
Visitation will take place Tues. May 11th 7-9 p.m. and Wed. May 12th 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 pm at the Durham Presbyterian Church where his funeral will be held Thurs. May 13th 2 p.m. Family flowers only.
