We the family, announce the death of George 'Shifty' MacKenzie on May 5, 2010, in Brampton, Ont.
George was born and raised in Red Islands.
He resided and worked in Sydney for several years before moving to Ontario, where he worked for Canada Post and CUPE, prior to retirement.
George is survived by his wife, Joan; three daughters, Adele, Karen and Allison; one brother, Steve (Annabelle); four sisters, Marie and Ann (csm), Sydney, Frances (Byron), and Doris, Ottawa; and sister-in-law, Lorna, Red Islands; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
George was a person of faith, who loved life and living. He cared deeply about his family, relatives, friends, and co-workers, as well as people in need, justice issues and politics. Returning often to Cape Breton, he delighted in the people, the music, the fun and the Cape Breton way of life. George will be missed and be remembered fondly by all his family, relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held in Brampton, Ont., on May 7, 2010, with private interment of ashes to take place later.
