ROSE, Thelma Mae - November 17, 1914 - April 30, 2010. Thelma Mae Rose passed away April 30, 2010, at age 95, in Villa St. Joseph. Born in Port Maitland, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Odessa (Floyd) Rose. She was a member of the Port Maitland Wesleyan Church. She did mission work in the hills of Kentucky where she made many friends. She graduated from the Booth Memorial Hospital, Brookline, Mass. where she trained as a nurse before going to Haiti. Thelma made two mission trips to Haiti- one in the early 50s and the second was in 1967. She became a United States citizen and worked in many New England hospitals retiring in 1977 from New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. She did private nursing for many dignitaries. She moved back to Yarmouth in 1977 to enjoy her retirement. She enjoyed writing pœtry and rhymes and family history. She is survived by sister, Mildred Pennell of Brenton and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Estella Steeves, Frances Harris, Jenny Rose and Muriel Muise and brothers, James, Herbert, Weldon and Clarence. Funeral service was Tuesday, May 4, at 2 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Rev. Karl Gorman, Rev. Dale Robertson and Rev. Larry Pennell officiated. Visitation was from 1-2 p.m. before the funeral. Interment was in Port Maitland-Beaver River Cemetery. Donations may be made to Port Maitland Wesleyan Church or New Life Church.
