Edna Vesta Austin
1926 - 2010
Edna Vesta Austin, age 83 of Collingwood passed away peacefully on Monday, May 10, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was a daughter of the late Verian and Gladys (Ford) Smith.
Edna was a graduate of Normal College, Nova Scotia Teacher's College and Mount Allison University. A dedicated teacher, she taught elementary school children in Collingwood and surrounding areas for 35 years. Edna was an active member and chaplain of the Eastern Star Lodge Sunrise Chapter, and served as treasurer of Collingwood United Church for several years. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.
Edna is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Wendell Austin of Collingwood; two daughters, Sonia (Dan) Smith of St. Peter's, NS, and Shelly (Dale) Wood of Salt Springs, Pictou County; two grandsons, Jason Smith of Burlington, ON, and Matthew Smith of St. Peter's, NS; one sister, Una (Ken) Austin, Kamloops, BC, as well as several nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents Edna was predeceased by a sister in infancy.
Arrangements have been entrusted to W Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water Street, Oxford (902-447-2167), from where visitation will take place 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Thursday, May 13, 2010. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Collingwood United Church at 2pm, Rev. Ruth Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Oxford. Donations in memory of Edna may be made the Collingwood United Church Repair Fund, the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
