We regret to announce the passing of Jessie Swain McEvoy, a lifelong resident of Cape North, Victoria County, on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 in the Buchanan Memorial Hospital.
Jessie was born in Cape North and was the daughter of the late Arthur and Margaret (Chaisson) McEvoy.
Jessie will be fondly remembered for her kindness and gentle nature. She spent her life on the family farm in Gray's Hollow and fed all who crossed her doorstep. For many years she and her brother, Jim, operated the first seniors' home in northern Cape Breton. Jessie had a great love of learning and was always reading and asking questions of her guests. She also was very strong in her Catholic faith and would always have her prayer beads close at hand.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Jessie is survived by her nieces and nephews, Patrick (Fritz) (Maggie), Cape North, Joe (Susan), Bedford, Dolores, Dartmouth, Eileen (Perry) Manzuk, Halifax, Mary Alice (Gerald) Daisley, Cape North and Susan, Dartmouth and many grand nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers, Chester, Reuben, Jim and Ernest Joseph and sister, Annie Eliza and niece Theresa, and special family at Highland Manor.
Visitation will be at the family home in Cape North on Sunday, May 23, from 1 to 5 p.m. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 24, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Parish Church in Dingwall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Highland Manor, the Buchanan Memorial Hospital or the St. Joseph's Church Cemetery Society.
