AILSBY - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Aline Francis Ailsby of the Vesper District and Swift Current, Saskatchewan who passed away Friday, May 21, 2010 at Shaunavon, Saskatchewan at the age of 89 years. Aline was born on March 14, 1921 in the Bronx, New York City. She was the only child of Bernard and Anne Adams. At an early age Aline was involved in Girl Guides, which provided her with the numerous day to day skills and comrodery of working with others in a cooperative manner that she would use her entire life. Aline excelled in school, graduating with honors. After completing high school, modeling became part of her life, helping her secure her first job as a hostess at the World's Fair in New York City. Aline was also an attendant at Madison Square Gardens, which had a later influence on her life. Aline, thousands of miles away in New York, was destined to meet a certain hockey player from Saskatchewan. For a number of months, while trying to catch each other's eye, life became more serious and Aline and Lloyd started dating. They eventually married in March of 1941. Together with Lloyd, early in his career they became Mr. and Mrs. hockey. The big city girl from New York had met the farm boy from Saskatchewan and together they entered into a new and exciting life together. Aline and Lloyd traveled for a number of years between New York, other centers and to the farm at Vesper. During these commutes, Aline along with a reference from Kay Paul was also able to obtain her Canadian Citizenship. After a few years they still found time to bring two talented children into the world, Ron and Judy. After the hockey skates became worn with age, Aline and Lloyd, realizing that there is life after hockey, began building the farm enterprise. Once settled on the farm, Aline became involved in the community, being part of the Bissell Homemaker's Club. It was also a concern of Aline's that there were no telephones in the area, and she was instrumental in having this service brought to the Vesper and Bissell areas. Family was always a big part of Aline's life, with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. On a regular basis, Aline assisted in getting grandchildren to and from the lake for swimming lessons and ball games in the summer time. She was, as well, the official car driver to the lake for the informal raspberry business. Her entire family also enjoyed her culinary skills, taking part in many exciting meals and treats. Although she always insisted that everyone eat properly, puff wheat balls and homemade ice tea always hit the spot. She also instilled in her family, values of respecting others and enjoying other people's points of view. For many years one family tradition was the annual meeting in Swift Current to attend the Frontier Days July 1st Parade, with family and friends from town and the farm. Once the parade was over, Chinese take out was on the menu along with a homemade desert. She always made this day an event for all to enjoy. As time past Aline and Lloyd started to spend half of their time in Swift Current and half at the farm. Sitting with Lloyd at all the Bronco games, she was a full time supporter and season ticket holder. Aline was diagnosed with Parkinsons later in life, which created a need to move to the Bentley Seniors Home, and then this past October she moved to the Shaunavon Nursing Home where she enjoyed her last months. She thought the staff was exceptional, providing great care and comfort. She had a beautiful sunny room facing the garden. Aline and Lloyd were married for 66 years when he passed away 3 years ago. She has now gone to be with her life partner and will continue to be remembered by all those who she knew and were loved by her. Aline is survived by her son Ronald (Susan) grandchildren Robin (Anne) and Adam (Michele); daughter Judy (David) and granddaughter Tafaline (Tom), great granddaughters Ashley and Krystan, grandson David (Angie), great granddaughters Brielle, Braelyn, and great grandson Shaye. She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd in 2007, mother Anne (1988) and father Bernard (1958). Her funeral service was held on Thusday, May 27, 2010 at 1:30 pm from the First United Church, Swift Current, Saskatchewan with Ministerial Staff Assistant Christine Ciona officiating. The organist was Patty McCleary, eulogist was Georgia Bratvold, ushers were Virginia Habscheid and Velma Wilson. The interment service was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, Saskatchewan with the pallbearers being Tafaline Wall, David Wall Jr., Robin Ailsby, Howard Ailsby, Glenn Bratvold and Allan Paul.
