Richard Noel Pereira - age 77. It was with great sadness that the family announced the passing of Dick on June 3, 2010, 6:45 am, with his wife at his side. Born on November 29, 1932, on the Island of St. Kitts, West Indies, he was the son of the late Noel M. Pereira and Winifred A. (DaCosta) Pereira. At the age of 13, Dick came to Canada and attended St. Mary's High School, St. Mary's University, and the Nova Scotia Technical College graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was a life member of the Association of Professional Engineers. He served in the RCAF reserves as a University student. After graduating he was employed by the NS Department of Highways, started and operated an Engineering Company and later worked with Public Works Canada, retiring at the age of 62. Dick was a Master of the Welsford Masonic Lodge in Windsor, N.S.; a Shriner with the Philae Temple in Halifax; a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason; and a Companion in the Hiram Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons. Dick was a very positive individual whose lust for life was large. Family, friends, history, learning, golf, curling, flying and his boyhood island were his passions. While much of his career was spent living in Windsor he loved all of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. He infused his family with a sense of culture and direction. For Dick it was always "another sunny day out there". The family home was his respite, the tiny spot in God's Universe that he loved. Of the many people and things he appreciated in life, his greatest was the love and support of his "Princess Alice", his "Digby Chick". He often reflected on days when they met, their trips, their events with special friends and raising their four daughters born in Truro to Amherst, to Shelburne, to Windsor. Dick, is survived by his wife, the former Alice Lillian VanTassell; daughters, Karin (Don) Dougherty, Halifax; Colleen (Steve) Dunn, Halifax; Kathy (Larry) Betance, St. Kitts and Elizabeth, St. Kitts. He is also survived by his brother, Colin (Lesley) Pereira of St. Kitts; sisters-in-law, Ruth Turner of Litchfield NS and Barbara Downey of Downsview, Ontario; grandchildren, Ian, Nick, Michael, Justin of Halifax and St. Kitts, step-grandchildren Ashley (Kristian), Chris, of Halifax. As well, he was survived by, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by, his sister, Patricia (Albert) Watkins. Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral Mass was 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 339 King Street, Windsor. A reception was held at Lindsay's Funeral Reception Centre, 184 King Street, immediately following the church service. A private family burial following the reception, in St. John's Parish Cemetery, Wiley Avenue, Windsor. To sign the book of condolence, click on "obituaries" at, www.lindsaysfuneralhome.com

We hear him still, "I'm a Caribbean boy....Chin, Chin....". We love you Dick, we miss you, rest in peace.
