Sadie passed away June 15, 2010 at the age of 93, at 7 Centre Northwood Nursing Home.
She was born at Southside Boularderie to the late William and Catherine MacRae.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Alex and brothers, Alexander, Murdoch, John and Roddy.
She is survived and sadly missed by sisters, Evelyn MacRae, Dartmouth and Ethel Morrison, Sydney Mines; brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews; grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews who were all near and dear to her heart.
Sadie had a varied and interesting career, starting in Cape Breton where she worked for the Samuel Gayley family of Beinn Bhreagh Baddeck, granddaughter of Alexander Graham Bell. She later traveled with them to the U.S. and also worked at the telephone company in the U.S. She moved back to Cape Breton where she and Alex were married and took up residence in Baddeck. There they ran the telephone office. She followed Alex to Dartmouth where she was employed first with the T. Eaton Company and then the Bank of Montreal, from where she retired as savings officer.
Sadie and Alex kept an open door for anyone who wished to stay or visit at their home. They loved to travel and belonged to the Wally Byam Airstream Club as active members for many years. They loved to visit family and friends in their travels, parking frequently in the Valley and Cape Breton. Sadie could always be counted on to provide plenty of food and tea for everyone from far and wide.
Sadie was a member of Grace United Church, a life member of the UCW and active in church affairs. She loved animals and had several pets. She enjoyed attending cat shows and proudly displayed the ribbons. She will be missed by her cat, Kaspar.
Sadie always had an encouraging word of wisdom for everyone who needed it and continued to be there for people, even later in her life.
She was loved and cared for by the staff of Northwood during her stay with them and special thanks for their care and compassion.
Sadie was a special lady of character and wisdom, who touched the lives of many people. We are all better people because of that touch. Heaven has a great angel for the chorus.
