Carol Allison Hope Scott, of Bathurst, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2010 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst at the age of 89. Born in Belledune, NB, on October 3rd, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Thomas John and Margaret Emma (Black) Loane. Hope was predeceased by her first husband, Lloyd Douglas Gammon, in 1954, her brothers, Gordon and Willard and her sister, Gladys. Hope is survived by her children: Carole R. (Gammon) Eddy (Ken) of Dartmouth, NS; Thomas R. Gammon (Shelley) of Tecumseh, ON; Constance E. Gammon-MacLennan (John) of Riverview; Nancy H. Scott of Bathurst; Margaret Anne Cameron (Paul) of Charlo; Charles J.R. Scott (Lori) of Bedford, NS; her 15 grandchildren: Michael (Lori), Steven (Kimberley) and Peter (Iona) Eddy; Keri and Donald Gammon; Sean and Adam MacLennan; Matthew Chiasson; Scott, Patrick, and Mary Cameron; Alexander and John David Howlett, Allison and Andrew Scott; her three great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Elizabeth and Benjamin Eddy, and several nieces and nephews and cousins. Her sister, Hazel Miller of Dalhousie. Hope attended schools in Belledune and Bathurst and graduated with her RN from Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal in 1943. She practised her nursing profession throughout her lifetime until her retirement in 1986, having served at Bathurst Pulp & Paper as a staff nurse, the Dunn Hospital, Hotel Dieu, Chaleur Regional and Foyer Notre-Dame de Lourdes.
Hope was an avid gardener, enjoyed knitting, painting, creative writing and genealogy.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 between the hours 7 to 9 p.m. at Elhatton's Funeral Home, 187 St. George St., Bathurst. A memorial service will be held at First United Church, St. Patrick Street, Bathurst, on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 2 p.m., followed by a reception at Donald Eddy Memorial Hall. Interment will be at First United Church Cemetery, East Bathurst. For those who wish, donations in Hope's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to First United Church, Bathurst.
