November 13, 1919 - June 21, 2010 - On June 21, 2010, Connie Saunders of Edmonton passed away gently at the age of 90 years with her family by her side. Connie was born in Saint John, NB and earned a B.Sc. from the University of New Brunswick, where she met her husband, Dr. William A. B. ("Al") Saunders. After living in Calgary for several years, they moved to Edmonton where Al became the first president of NAIT and later Deputy Minister of Public Works for Alberta. Connie had a lifelong dedication to encouraging education, and her offspring have benefited enormously from this. Her character is best exemplified by her boundless love for little children. Left to cherish her memory are her children Harry (Thelma) Saunders of Danville, CA, Connie Wuest of Edmonton, and her daughter-in-law Maureen Saunders of Edmonton; also her eight grandchildren: Janet (Kelly), Lois (John), Alison, Bill, Mary, Angela, Duston, James (Monica); and seven great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Malachi (and their mother Ellen), Coleman, Connor, Cooper, Grace and Will; one sister, Lois, of Fredericton, NB, and one sister-in-law, Eleanor, of Victoria BC. Connie was predeceased by her loving husband and their son Bill.
A visitation will take place at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home's downtown location 10011 - 114 Street from 3:00PM to 5:00PM on Sunday, June 27, 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Annunciation Church 9420 - 163 Street, Edmonton on Monday, June 28, 2010 at 11:00AM. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Connie's family wishes to extend their profound gratitude to the staff of Jasper Place Continuing Care Center for their compassionate care of their Mom during these past few weeks.
