Robert Graham McCallum, 83, of the Veteran’s Memorial Hospital, Halifax, formerly of Glengarry, Pictou County, died Friday May 15, 2009 in the hospital.
Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late John Alexander and Ethel (Atwater) McCallum.
Robert was a resident of the Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in Halifax for the past 2 years, having previously resided in Glengarry, Pictou County for over 40 years. He served with the Royal Canadian Airforce as a Machinist, serving overseas during WWII, with the rank of LAC.
Bob had an inquisitive mind and had many interests and talents. He was an accomplished machinist and gunsmith and in his later years had a keen interest in writing poetry.
Bob loved his home in Glengarry, where he could watch the seasons change, as he enjoyed the many aspects of nature available in his own backyard.
Surviving are a son, Robert Lewis (Isabel), Alberta; daughters: Connie (Ernie) MacDonald, MacLellan’s Brook; Leona Embree (Harold), Truro; Debra Buttle, Coalburn; Charmaine Ashton (John), Bridgeville; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, M. Lee Mawdsley, New Glasgow; a special cousin, Estelle Grant, Bedford; his wife, the former Enid Dobbin, Riverton.
Predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth â€Betty†Christine Beaton; a son, Alexander â€Sandy†Graham McCallum, and a sister, Grace Irene Chisholm.
Cremation to take place. There will be no visitation or service by request of the family. A private family committal service will be held in the Lorne Cemetery at a later date.
