1944 - 2009
Leona King passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2009 at Extendicare in Moose Jaw. She was born February 6, 1944 in Swift Current. Having Down syndrome did not stop Leona from having a very active life. She lived in Weyburn Special Needs Hospital before moving into Valley View Care Centre in Moose Jaw. She then moved into private care homes in the city. She enjoyed all the activities that came her way. Leona worked at Diversified for many years and had lots of friends to socialize with. Leona’s mother Marg had a big influence on her and taught her many social skills when she had her home on weekends at least once a month. Leona was known for her “HUGS” - you might not have wanted one, but you got one anyway! She always knew the holidays in the year and wanted to be home with family. Colouring Easter eggs at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas were all special for her. Leona spent many summer holidays at Candle Lake. She enjoyed swimming in her early years - it was a fun time for her. She also liked to go boating and fish with her dad and Eva and especially enjoyed the ice cream treat after. She was predeceased by her parents, Marjorie King (2001) and Leo King (2007). She is lovingly survived by her sisters: Alvera Marsh (Ray) and Anita Folgizan, brother, Terry Jordan, step-mother, Eva King; step-sisters: Lee Ann King and Eva Maude King, as well as many nieces and nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel. Della Ferguson will officiate. Private family memorialization will take place in Prairie Memorial Columbarium at a later date.
