NEW GLASGOW / ST. PAULS – James Lester Sutherland (Suds), 62, passed away suddenly at the Aberdeen Hospital on, May 20, 2009.
Born in 1947 in Truro, son of Lester Gunn Sutherland and Mary Elizabeth (Campbell) Sutherland, James left for the west in his early days to seek his fortune before returning home to Pictou County in 1985, where he resided until his final days, working with his brother, John in surveying, and with his loving partner, Carolyn Thompson. In addition to having an inquisitive mind and an unyielding humor, he greatly enjoyed hunting fishing, camping and the outdoor life in general. Some will remember his zest for life and others his scrappiness, but all who remember him will miss him greatly. To his friends, he might say; “I just got the hook, my last drive is hereâ€.
James is survived by his partner, Carolyn Thompson, St Pauls; daughter, Nicole Sutherland, Moosejaw, Saskatchewan; son, Bryan Sutherland, Yellowknife, N.W.T.; sister, Kathleen George, Yellowknife N.W.T.; brother, John, New Glasgow; and grand-children: Shenika, Kaither, Keely, Brandon, and James.
By request of the deceased his remains have been cremated, and there will be no public visitation or services. Condolences may be sent to the family via the H.W. Angus Funeral Home website, www.angusfuneralhome.com, and will be forwarded to the family.
Donations in the memory of James may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital palliative care unit.
Special thanks to the staff at Aberdeen Hospital, whose attention and kindness was greatly appreciated by, James, and his family and friends.
