WESTVILLE – It is with truly broken hearts, the children of Murray MacNaughton Clark, formerly of Union Street, Westville, announce his passing in the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit, Pictou, on Thursday, May 21, 2009.
Born in Stellarton, on December 11, 1926, he was a son of the late Henry and Christina (Cameron) Clark.
He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Judy Sibilde (Ben), Lorne; Maureen Raniowski (Peter), Abercrombie; Colleen Webb, Trenton; and son David (Connie), Thorburn; grandchildren, Paul MacNeill and Rachel MacNeill-Griese; Gavin and Alisha Raniowski; Brett and Christina Clark; Adam, Matthew, Jared, and Riley Webb; seven great-grandchildren; sisters Nellie Patton, New Glasgow, Margaret MacDonald, Trenton, Leona Shepard, Louisbourg, and brother Les Didsbury, MacLellan’s Brook.
He was predeceased by his wife the former Evelyn MacLeod; brothers Aubrey and Chuck; and sisters Frances Stewart and Bertha Smith.
Murray was a coal miner for many years, working in several mines throughout Pictou County. He was a dragger man working with many rescues including Springhill. After the closure of the mines, Murray was employed at Michelin Tire until retirement.
Murray was a proud overseas veteran of WWII, serving with the 8th Canadian Hussars. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #28, Stellarton. He had been residing at the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit for the past two years and was a founding member of the Veteran’s Bus Fund. Murray was an avid gardener, taking great pride in the property on Union Street which later extended to his garden in Pictou.
Visitations will be held from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 28 will conduct a service at 6:30 on Sunday at the Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul United Church, Westville with Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens, Sylvester. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Veteran’s Bus Fund, Pictou.
