Edward McCormick

Edward Joseph McCormick, 83, Springhill, NS, passed away in the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS, surrounded by loved ones on Friday, July 23, 2010.
Born April 30, 1927 in Springhill, NS to the late Lillian (Davis) McCormick-Alyward and Hibbert John McCormick.
He was a loving husband of 63 years to wife Doris and devoted father and grandfather to his children and grandchildren.
Ed started work in the Springhill Coal Mines at an early age and was a draegerman in the 1956 Mine Explosion. Following the explosion he became manager of the Springhilll Arena for several years. Ed then went on to work for Correction Services Canada in Dorchester and then Springhill until his retirement.
His greatest enjoyment was spending time with family, friends, and sports (in particular baseball and hockey). For numerous years he coached a Springhill Fence Busters Baseball team. Always the sports enthusiast, Ed got great satisfaction from discussing the latest sports events with his sons-in-law and grandsons.
Ed will be sadly missed by his wife Doris (nee Nelson); 3 daughters, Linda (Ray) Grenier, Riverview, NB; Brenda Patterson, Springhill, Connie McCormick (Harry Gouchie), Amherst; son Larry (Carolyn) McCormick, Springhill; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Katharine McCormick, Kimberly, BC; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers Leonard and Ivan.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361) where visiting hours will take place on Monday from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 11 am, Rev. David Lloyd-Pearce. Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
