Acker, Gordon Vincent - 77, of the Wolfville Nursing Home, formerly of the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home, passed away Friday, July 16, 2010 in the Wolfville Nursing Home. Born on March 25, 1933 in Kentville, and raised on the Gaspereau Mountain, he was a son of Viola Acker and was later raised by Ray and Leona Schofield. He had been employed for a number of years as a custodian at Acadia University, retiring after 28 years. Gordon was a devoted member of the Jehovah's Witnesses, attending the Kingdom Hall in Grand Pré. He also loved working in his garden. He is survived by three daughters, Sherry Atwell, Wolfville; Annette (John) MacGillivray, New Minas; Holly (John) Walsh, Gaspereau Mountain; two sons, Maurice (Janet) Davidson, Burlington, ON; Michael, Wolfville; foster sister, Marilyn (Billy) Morine, Gaspereau Mountain; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Lorna Mae Davidson. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2010 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010, Mr. George Laevens officiating. Burial took place in the Gaspereau Cemetery, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the members of the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home and the Wolfville Nursing Home for the great care they provided Gordon during his trying years.
