GILBERT, ETHEL L. - 91, of Lakelands, Cumberland Co. passed away Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro surrounded by her family. Born in Oxford, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Georgie (Wood) Gilbert. Ethel will be remembered for her sense of humour, her dedication and love for her family, along with her competitive spirit in card games, checkers and Scrabble. She loved to quilt with friends and family, and knit mittens and socks for loved ones. Ethel often baked favourite family treats and made homemade preserves. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by a son, Ronald (Louise), Lakelands; daughters, Audrey Heward (Lorne), North Bay, Ont.; Carolyn O'Hearn (Fred), Five Islands; Diane Gilbert, Scarborough; Barbara Gilbert, Parrsboro; Bernice Fulton (Earl), Parrsboro; Joanne Gilbert, Kamloops, B.C.; Cheryl Johnson (Mike), Parrsboro; daughter in law, Norma Gilbert, Oakwood, Ont.; a sister, Lois Moore, Parrsboro; brothers, Elmer, Amherst; Vaughn (Viola), Athol; 30 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, J. Maxwell Gilbert; a son, Bradford; brothers, Lawson, Murray; a great grandchild, Justin Scott. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Monday [August 2, 2010] at Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro, where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday [August 3, 2010], Keith Selwyn-Smith, D.M. officiating.
