Resident of Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away at the Grande Prairie Care Center on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the age of 102.
Fred was born on the family farm near Brudenell, P.E.I., where he spent 40 years of his life actively farming. He married Jean Nickerson at the age of 47 and raised his family in Montague, P.E.I. Fred was a faithful member of the Church of Christ all his life. He worked several years as a hospital administrator in Montague.
Fred and Jean moved to Grande Prairie in 1988 where they have resided since.
He was predeceased by his infant son, James Frederick; siblings, Homer Norton, Edison Norton and Jessie Beck.
Surviving are his wife, Jean; children, Doug (Susan), David (Christine) and Ruth (William) Petker; grandchildren, Michael, Kelsey, James and John Norton and Matthew, Laura and Kevin Petker; nieces and nephews, Rosina (Dr. Barry) Norris, Pauline (Ron) Friesen, Katheryn (Louie) Wilchynski, Vincent (Eileen) Beck, and others plus numerous relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Grande Prairie Church of Christ (9602-92 Avenue) with interment to follow in Grande Prairie City Cemetery.
