The death of Alfred Allison MacLaren, age 76, occurred at Portage General Hospital, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, on Sunday, August 8, 2010, with his family by his side.
Survived by his wife of 51 years, Gertrude (Hawbolt); daughters, Debbie (Barry Urquhart), N.B.; Valerie (Dale Reid), AB; Darlene Long, MB; and son, Alfred (Coralie), MB; grandchildren, Jason Urquhart (Michelle); Scott and Jamie Reid; Jimmy, Josh and Jeremy Long; Amanda and Adena MacLaren; stepgrandchildren, Becky Braun (Clint) and Stephen Arundell; brothers, Reg and Lorne; and sister, Jean Dover.
Predeceased by grandson, Alfred Tyler MacLaren; brothers, Victor, Keith, Melvin and Maurice; and sisters, Gladys MacKenzie, Lois Williston, Freda Sawyer, Rhoda Rodgers and Irma Weeks.
Alfred loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren. Hunting and fishing seasons were highlights in his life. He also enjoyed his garden and took pride in the abundant harvest that came from it.
He was a fisherman for 35 years. From there he went into the ministry for 28 years where he ministered at nine different locations in the Maritimes. He was honoured and respected wherever he went.
