Harold Ettinger
ETTINGER, Harold Burnham, age 89, of Amherst, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2010.
Born in Mill Village, NS, he was a son of the late Osborne and Lois (Miller) Ettinger.
A military minded man, he joined the Canadian Army in 1942 and fought in the Second World War in Italy, France, Holland and Germany. He is President of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders Memory Club and work in the Militia for many years. During his working career, he was manager of Household Finance Co., Executive Director of Industrial Commission, Amherst and while working there helped establish 13 industries in the Industrial Park. Following this he became a District Manager for the NS Department of Development in Truro and Amherst. In retirement he became a Real Estate Agent. Harold was an active member of the Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, serving as Elder, Sunday School Teacher and member of the Choir and Men's Club. He served a term as Chairman of Highland View Hospital and worked with the Food Bank. He was an avid gardener who loved time sitting in the sun admiring his flowers.
Harold will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Doreen (Currie); his children, Peter (Korandin), Maryann (Burnie), Andrew (Amber) and Jonathan (Dionne); beloved granddaughters, Isabelle Ivy and Kieran. He was predeceased by siblings, Irene, Dorothy, Elva, Roy, Albert, Gordon and Avard.
Harold's remains have been cremated under the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777) with visitation Tuesday, August 24 from 7 to 9 pm. The Memorial service will be held at the Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 2 pm, Rev's Allan Griffin and Susan Estabrooks officiating. Burial in the Amherst Cemetery. A time of reception will be held in the Burgess Hall following the service. Memorial donations to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Trinity St. Stephen's United Church , the Dr. Georges Dumont Hospital or a charity of the donor's choice gratefully accepted. www.furlongjones.ca
