Crosby, Alton Knowles - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alton Knowles Crosby of Cavan, Ont., on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Peterborough, Ont., at the age of 72. Born January 24, 1938 in South Ohio, Yarmouth County, he was a son of the late Dorothy and Ralph Crosby. He was a long-time employee of National Grocers. Alton is survived by his loving wife, Peggy (Margaret Hatfield), formerly of Peasant Lake, and daughters Marlene Stamler (Michel Curtis), Christine Malloy (Patrick) and Sarah Kennedy (Corey), all of Ontario. He will also be sadly missed by grandchildren Samantha and Amanda Stamler, Ian, Grace and Ryan Malloy, Victoria and Ruby Kennedy; brother Douglas Crosby (Rose), South Ohio, and sister Marni LeBlanc (Tony), Abram's River; brothers-in-law Edgar Hatfield, Ontario and Glenn Hatfield, Annapolis Valley; sisters-in-law Irma Oxner, Yarmouth, Lorna Baskette (Gerry), Halifax and Bonnie Hurlburt (Jack), Rockville. He was predeceased by brothers-in-law Arnold Hatfield and Richard Hatfield. Alton will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Visitation was held on Friday, August 6 at the Nisbett Funeral Home and Chapel, Peterborough. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 7 in the Nisbett Chapel. In memory of Alton, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
