Winter (nee Wilson), Judith Merriam
Surrounded by her loving family she returned to the loving arms of her Lord from Lisaard House in Cambridge after a four month battle with pancreatic cancer, at the age of 72. Born in Truro, NS, daughter of the late George and Madelyn Wilson (nee Merriam). She was married in St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Truro at a Naval wedding to her beloved husband and partner David Winter, now of Waterloo. She is survived by her husband David; daughter Merriam of Kingston and sons Andrew and Bruce of Kitchener-Waterloo. Judy was intensely proud of her loving grandchildren Adam, Sam and Josh (Merriam's children) and Sarah and Olivia (Bruce's children). She is also survived by her former daughter-in-law Leanne Winter; brother David Wilson; sister Jans Henderson; sister-in-law Rose Wilson; brothers-in-law Paul Winter (Sheila), John Winter and Bruce Winter; and by 19 nephews and nieces. Predeceased by her brother Peter Wilson and brothers-in-law Scott Henderson and Kenneth Winter.
Judy and Dave lived in Kingston, Halifax, Winnipeg and Kitchener-Waterloo. In Kingston and Kitchener-Waterloo she worked for Family and Children's Services. At St. John the Evangelist in Kitchener she was a Church Warden and coordinator of the Anglican Church Woman where she helped in all activities including the pudding factory. She loved many sports, played basketball, tennis, ping pong and closely followed the CFL (Blue Bombers), the NHL (Canadiens), professional tennis and baseball. She was an avid bridge player, a president of the Probus Club and did Meals-on-Wheels with Dave for seven years. Summers were spent traveling in Western Canada, at our Bayfield cottage and at Shortts Lake in NS. She loved traveling with Dave on the conference circuit to many world centres in Europe, from London to Vienna, Copenhagen to Lisbon, many cities in Australia, USA and Canada where she enjoyed the people, the culture and the scenery. She would like to thank Dr. Rodney Bruce, the Community Care nurses, Heather, Sue, and both Jennifer's for their loving and efficient care in her last month and the sensitive care of the staff at Lisaard House over her final days. Friends will be received at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467 on Wednesday, September 8th from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, September 9th from 2-4 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate Judy's life will be held at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 23 Water Street North, Kitchener, on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 2 p.m. Reverend Canon Cy Ladds officiating.
