The death of Mary Louise Gaffney occurred on Sunday, August 29th, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital. She was born in Barnaby River, December 28, 1922, the daughter of the late Thomas Gaffney and Louise (Alward) Gaffney. Louise was a devout Roman Catholic. While living in Barnaby, she and her sister were members of the choir for, the then, Latin Mass. She later moved to Moncton where she studied at Oulton Business College. She was employed with The T. Eaton company for several years. In her later years, she resided in Newcastle, where she enjoyed the friendship of many and was highly respected. She is survived by two nieces and two nephews and several devoted cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Benny and sister Marion Gordon.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at The Most Pure Heart of Mary church in Barnaby River at 10 AM on Friday, September 3rd, with Father Tom Fowler officiating. Readings and Intercessions were by her cousins Christina, Alice and Robert Esson of Moncton. Organist Krista Hutchison led the congregation in the singing of the hymns "Here I Am Lord", The Prayer of Saint Francis", "Be Not Afraid", "On Eagles Wings" and "The Lord is My Shepherd". Burial followed in the Family Plot. The funeral arrangements were under the care of Northumberland Funeral Home, 102 Pleasant St., telephone (506) 622-7741.
