It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Verna Esther (Hanson) Armstrong on Friday September, 10, 2010, just 3 days prior to her 87th birthday. Verna was born September 13, 1923 in Regina, SK, and was on of 11 children. She is predeceased by her parents Ellert and Rosa (Hesla) Hanson; brothers: Harold, Bert, Roy (Eileen) Hanson; sisters: Opal (Norman) Kennedy, Bertha (Jack) Ross, Ethel (Atlie) Berkey, Bernice (Clifford) Kennedy, and Vera Dermody; and brothers-in-law Dr. Leicester Eaton, Frank Forsberg, and Michael Benz. She is survived by sister Myrtle Eaton of La Crosse, Wisconsin, twin sister Violet Benz of Kelowna, BC; brother-in-law John Dermody of Regina; sister-in-law Louise Hanson of Regina; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Verna is also survived by many friends, particularly Terry and Fran Aikens, and Brian and Terry Webster - all of Hearne, who are considered "extended" family. Verna taught school in the Briercrest area, and worked in the Regina General Hospital during which time she met and married Robert Armstrong of Hearne, SK. They lived on the farm for many years, and moved into a new home in Avonlea in 1994. In 2005 Verna became a resident of Coteau Range Manor in Avonlea where she received excellent care and continued to enjoy her friendships and the community. Verna will be missed by her family and many great friends, and by the Avonlea Community. The family extends their appreciation to the staff at Coteau Range Manor for their special care and attention to Verna. The Celebration of Verna's life will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Tuesday September 14, 2010 at 1:30 pm. Friends are invited to the Committal Service at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Avonlea on Wednesday September, 15, at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Coteau Range Manor, Avonlea, or to a charity of choice, would be appreciated. In living memory of Verna, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J.
