Passed peacefully away Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at home in Gander, age 87 years. Born and raised in Grand Bank, she was the last of the seven children of S. Merrill and Triffie Tibbo), Grand Bank. Ruth graduated from Memorial University Teachers College in 1940 and taught school in Grand Bank and Grand Falls where she married Hugh Lacey of Norris Arm. They moved to Gander in 1946 where she raised her family of seven children. She taught piano in Gander for many years and was also a member of The Fraser Road U.C.W. Predeceased by former husband Hugh and son Kevin, accidentally killed in 1969. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are her sons Wayne and Keith, daughters Karen, Kathryn, Kristine, Grace and their families; 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Long time neighbours and special friends Doris West and Elsie Green. Homecare workers and friends Maureen Dyke and Sandra Beaton as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Funeral service from the Fraser Road United Church, Friday, June 5th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with cremation to follow. Reception at the United Church Hall after the service. Flowers gratefully accepted and donations in Mrs. Lacey’s memory can be made to the CNIB.
