Lieu de décès : Sydney Mines, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 13 septembre 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Robert Gerard Dickson, a resident of Fraser Avenue, Sydney Mines, on Monday, Sept. 13, 2010.
Born May 25, 1940, Robert was a son of the late Hugh Higgins Dickson and Jeanne Julia (Brassart) Dickson of Sydney Mines.
Robert leaves behind his mother, loving wife, Isobelle (Blagdon); son, Robert; daughter, Sherry Finney (Paul); cherished granddaughters, Meghan and Emily; sister, Bonnie Dickson; Uncle Maurice Brassart; and many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Besides his father, Robert was predeceased by his brother, Richard and granddaughter, Miranda, in infancy.
Robert married his soulmate Isobelle in July 1963. Soon after, they moved to Ontario for a few years before returning to Cape Breton to raise their family. Robert spent a good part of his career working as a member of the Seafarers' International Union. This job took him to many parts of the world, including Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, and overseas. He had so many stories to share of his travels.
In his retirement years, Robert was occupied with his many automotive and boating projects. His family takes comfort in knowing that he passed away while doing what he enjoyed best, tinkering in his garage.
Those that knew him will remember his quick smile, jokes and overall positive attitude. Robert also had a thirst for knowledge and fed this through his love of books and documentary television. His favourite saying was, "it's better to be born lucky than rich."
We truly were the lucky ones to have had such a generous and loving person in our lives, who always thought of others before himself.
At Robert's request there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church with Rev. Marion Barclay MacKay officiating. Following the service, interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory are suggested to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice.
Expressions of sympathy may be sent to d.francis@ns.sympatico.ca.
