McCLOUD - Mrs. Elma passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the age of 81. She was born October 18, 1928 at Rush lake, SK. She was one of four children born to Adam and Beana Ring. She received her education at Moscow School and then later attended Herbert Bible School. She met her sweetheart Melvin Frederick McCloud and married him in Medicine Hat, AB on December 10, 1951. They took up residence in Swift Current until they purchased the family farm. Mel quickly found out that he was allergic to grain dust and they had to move to town. In 1960 their only child, Karen, was born. Mel and Elma, with the help of her father, built their first house at 290 - 13th Ave. NE. They rented the basement out to two teachers for many years. They also owned a cabin at Clearwater Lake where they had lots of fun with family and friends. In 1970 the opportunity presented itself to move to Summerland, BC, so after their house and cabin sold the family moved! Unfortunately Mel developed an illness and they felt they should move back to Swift Current. In 1975 they built another house next to Mel's brother Warren where they lived till after retiring. She loved to cook big meals and serve vegetables and pickles that she made from her garden. There were always homemade buns and pies for dessert. She played guitar and bowled until arthritis forcer her to quit! After a few more moves, and Mel's health issues, he predeceased her on January 9, 2007. Life was lonely without Mel and she missed him till the end. She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Gerry) of Okotoks, AB, grandchildren Cara and Joel Mapplebeck. Sister Elsie Clark of Swift Current, Ted (Ruby) Ring of Abbotsford, BC, Ed Ring of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Brothers-in-law Warren (Pearl) McCloud of Swift Current, Maude Nordahl, New Westminster, Paul (Joan) McCloud, White Rock. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to thank all her friends at Golden West Manor for all their helpfulness and care. Her "Special friend" Amy Froese, without whom she couldn't have managed the quality of life she had the last few months. Donations to the Church of The Open Bible Memorial Fund would be appreciated. The Funeral service was held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at The Church of The Open Bible with Pastor Rob Cochrane officiating.
