63, of Dartmouth NS, formerly of St. John's and Goulds, NL, died September 26, 2010 at the Palliative Care Unit of the VG Hospital, Halifax, NS. Catherine is the daughter of the late Victor and Lillian (Cahill) Pittman of St. John's and was predeceased by her first husband, David Picco, in January, 1992. She leaves to mourn her husband of seven years, Donald Dinn, formerly of St. John's; son Charles Picco (Kim Dooley) and precious grandson, Spencer, Carbonear, NL; sons Christopher Picco (Paula Gale), St. John's; and David Picco (Julia Barrett), Toronto; brother Robert (Bob) Pittman (Linda), Dartmouth; sisters Millie Hammond (Harold) and Violet Aylward (Gordon), St. John's; stepsons Michael Dinn and Stephen Dinn (Julie MacLeod), Halifax; Picco family in-laws - Patsy McQueen (Mac), Betty Horsmann (Glen), Sheila Giarusso, Joanie Shaw (Derek), and Charlie Picco (Dianne); Dinn family in-laws - Joan (Dinn) Jamieson, Jackie LeGrow (Bruce), Sharon Leonard (Carson), and Gary Dinn (Marg). While living in St. John's, Catherine was an elder of St. David's Presbyterian Church, and volunteered over a period of 9 years for the John Howard Society with the 1-2-1 Program and at the HM Penitentiary library. During her time in Dartmouth Catherine was an elder of Andrew's Presbyterian Church, one of the founding members of its Prayer Shawl Group, active in the church's Atlantic Mission Society (AMS), and the circulation manager of The Presbyterian Message publication of the AMS. Catherine was a people connector who cultivated and nourished lasting friendships wherever she went. She leaves many cherished friends in Dartmouth and in St. John's who were of great help and support during her illness. The family offers its sincere and heartfelt thanks to the palliative care team at the VG hospital, to the VON, and to the Canadian Red Cross home care attendants who all helped care for Catherine in her last months. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 216 School St., Dartmouth at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 2, 2010; reception to follow. A memorial service and reception will also take place at St. David's Presbyterian Church, 98 Elizabeth Ave., St. John's, NL at 11:0 0AM, Tuesday, October 12, 2010; private (family) committal to follow.
